How many phone numbers can you remember by heart? It's probably fewer than you would like.Actually, you're not alone.Out of more than 1,000 Americans who were surveyed, more than half said that they couldn't recall the phone numbers of their friends and neighbors. And 44%said that they couldn't remember their relatives' phone numbers. In their eyes, there is no point in filling their heads with phone numbers if they're all stored in smart phones that are with them almost all the time.
In fact, most people are suffering from a sort of digital amnesia(失憶癥).More than 90%of those surveyed agreed that they used the Internet as an online extension of their brains.Rote memorization(死記硬背)was once an important part of modern education, but we just need a click or slide now. That's making us worse at remembering things.
Researchers found that when people expected to have access to information online, they were less likely to remember actual facts, but more likely to remember how to find them.As a result,we are already becoming one with our computer tools, growing into interconnected systems that remember less by knowing information than by knowing where the information can be found.
However, some believe it isn't necessarily a bad thing--maybe it gives them more chances to think through things. We certainly have access to more knowledge now than ever, even if it isn't all stored in our brains.
Even so,I still believe that there are more risks to this new world of memory beyond losing our ability to recall some information such as who the 15th President was. That kind of information may always be a click away, but the important things are personal ones, like the way your parents smiled at your wedding. It's harder to recall or find online. If you're relying on yourself to keep track of those memories, they will be much more meaningful.
(1)Paragraph 1 is mainly used to
.
A.serve as the background
B.introduce the topic
C.explain new research
D.a(chǎn)ttract readers' attention
(2)What's the main cause of people's suffering from digital amnesia?
A.Dealing with too many things.
B.Seldom thinking about questions.
C.Relying on the Internet too much.
D.The changes of their memories.
(3)What can be learned from paragraphs 3&4?
A.People can receive less information using internet.
B.People can gain knowledge more easily than before.
C.It's a bad thing to have a chance to think through things.
D.People find it hard to remember how to find information.
(4)What's the author's attitude towards people's memories now?
A.Worried.
B.Optimistic.
C.Disappointed.
D.Confident.

The human brain contains 10 thousand million cells(細(xì)胞)and each of these may have a thousand connections.Such great numbers used to discourage us and cause us to stop thinking about the possibility of making a machine with humanlike ability, but now that we have grown used to moving forward at such a speed,we can be less sure.Quite soon,in only 10 or 20 years, perhaps,we will be able to build a machine as complex(復(fù)雜的) as the human brain, and if we can,we will.It may then take us a long time to make it as intelligent as the human brain by properly programming it.
I think it is certain that in decades, not centuries, machines of silicon(硅)will arise to compete with their human ancestors. In a real sense they will be able to reproduce themselves.Silicon will have ended
carbon
's long control. And we will no longer be able to consider ourselves to be the finest intelligence in the world.
As the intelligence of robots increases and their cost goes down,we may achieve a lot with their help, first on the earth through their ability to complete any kind of work in harmful environments. In the end, deserts(沙漠)may turn into gardens.Further ahead,by a combination of the great wealth this new age will bring and the technology it will provide, the creation of a huge,man-made world in space, home to thousands or millions of people, will be within our power.
(1)In the author's opinion,the human brain
.
A.is complex and intelligent
B.is too complex to be reproduced
C.may change a lot in 10 or 20 years
D.will soon be replaced by machines
(2)The underlined word "carbon" in Paragraph 2 stands for
.
A.human beings
B.a(chǎn)n old machine
C.a(chǎn)n ocean animal
D.intelligent robots
(3)In the last paragraph, the author mainly
.
A.talks about the intelligence of robots
B.explains how to create a world in space
C.describes what our future life might be
D.shows his worry about the environment

Jeff Bezos, the world's wealthiest person, was just five when American astronauts stepped on the surface of the moon on July 20,1969.However,he's never forgotten the black-and-white footage from the historic moment.Since then, the moon has always been the center of his space dreams which are channeled through his spaceflight company,Blue Origin.
On May 9,2019,at a meeting held in Washington,DC,Bezos came one step closer to achieving his dream of sending people there, when he presented a model of a lander,Blue Moon, designed to carry both humans and goods to the satellite.
Though details of how Blue Moon will be sent to space remain unclear,Bezos is confident it'll be ready for its mission (使命) by 2024.He considers it unavoidable to settle in space given our ever-increasing population and fewer resources.Unlike those seeking a home on another planet,Bezos thinks humans will be living in orbital space settlements, which are similar to the International Space Station, except much bigger, each housing millions of people.Space taxis would make it easy for humans to travel between settlements.
But first we need to develop a cheaper way to travel between space and Earth.Bezos may have solved the problem partly by removing the biggest cost of spaceflights-single use rockets-with Blue Origin's reusable New Shepard rocket, which has made several trips to space and back since 2015.
To encourage future space dreamers, the company's recently built a free online club that will keep members informed of its progress and challenge them to find solutions to help humans and save earth. It invites students of all ages to draw or write how they imagine humans living and working in space on a self-addressed,stamped postcard and send it to the "Club for the Future" by July 20,2019.The first 10,000 postcards will be sent to space aboard the New Shepard rocket later this year. When it returns to Earth, the postcards, stamped "flown to space," will be returned to their owners.
(1)What does Paragraph 1 mainly talk about?
A.An impressive historic moment.
B.The beginning of Bezos' space dream.
C.The exciting news of sending man to space.
D.Bezos' secret of becoming the wealthiest person.
(2)What will be orbital space settlements like in Bezos' eyes?
A.Overpopulated.
B.Solar-powered.
C.Energy-hungry.
D.Conveniently accessible.
(3)What's the purpose of the free online club?
A.To help humans and save earth.
B.To challenge students of all ages.
C.To build a new way of sending postcards.
D.To encourage future space dreamers.
