          The earliest existing product was found in 1980 in Hubei Province.It is believed to be made during the Warring States about 3,000 years ago.According to the historical records,the daily furniture made of wood came into being in Southern Qi Period (420 A.D. -479 A.D. ).In one of his poems,Tang poet Han Yu described a wood-carving figure vividly.During the Song and Yuan Dynasties,some painters began to focus on the painting of the product.In Qing Dynasty,this art reached a new peak,and there were many artists good at it.Today many valuable products of this kind are kept in the Imperial Palace in Beijing and Yuyuan Garden in Shanghai.

    Traditionally,girls in towns and cities around China learned the skill at their early age,which will give them an advantage when they are going to marry.
          This art was first developed by local women to decorate their clothes,pouches and bedclothes.With is designs rich in life and full of colors,it has gradually developed into a national art.What's more,China's large production of silk has promoted the development of this art.
