1.In most parts of the world, many students help their schools make less pollution(污染).They join"environment clubs(環(huán)境俱樂部)".In an environment club, people work together to make our environment clean.
Here are some things students often do.
No-garbage(垃圾)Lunches.How much do you throw away after lunch?Environment clubs ask students to bring their lunches in bags that can be used again.Every week they will choose the classes that make the least garbage and report them to the whole school!
No-Car day.On a no-car day, nobody comes to school in a car-not the students and not the teachers!Cars give pollution to our air,so remember:
Walk,jump,bike or run.
Use your legs! It's lots of fun!
Turn off the water!Did you know that some toilets (抽水馬桶)can waste tons (噸) of water an hour?In a year, that would fill a small river! In environment clubs, students mend those broken toilets.
We love our environment.Let's work together to make it clean.

2.Have you ever wondered what goes through your mind when you choose where to sit in a new classroom?Or in a waiting room full of strangers?Or on a bus?Researchers have found out some interesting facts.
Perhaps unsurprisingly,we prefer to sit closer to people like ourselves.Girls sit by girls and boys sit by boys.Adults sit together and young people choose another young person to sit near. But it goes further than this.We even choose to sit near someone who looks like us.People with glasses are more likely to sit near other people with glasses.People with long hair sit closer to other people with long hair.
We seem to believe that people with similar habits or hobbies will share similar attitude and we are more likely to be accepted by people like ourselves or even,we think we may be safer with people who look like us.Sometimes that's true but it's a pity if we-always- stick to the same people,the- same group. The danger in always staying in our comfort zone(舒適區(qū))is that we just recycle the same opinions, the same tastes and the same ideas. We lose the chance to learn something new, find out about interesting things, hear funny stories and discover difference
When we always stick to the same people, how can we ever break down the barriers which prevent us from getting to know people with different ideas? And how can we avoid the ignorance (無知),which too often leads to prejudice(偏見)and even fear?Move out of your comfort zone.Go and sit next to someone different. And don't just sit there in silence.Say hello.Ask a question.Start a conversation. That's how we make friends. That's how we learn about people. That's how we open our minds to new ideas. That's how we live an exciting life
(1)From the passage,we know that people prefer sitting by someone who
A.is like themselves
B.has a sense of humor
C.is open-minded
D.lives an exciting life
(2)People like staying in their comfort zone because they may
A.remain comfortable and special
B.be accepted easily and feel safe
D.discover differences among themselves.
C.find out more interesting things
(3)What is the purpose of the passage?
A.To tell us just to be ourselves in social life.
B.To introduce ways to learn about the world.
C.To explain how people communicate with others.
D.To encourage us to meet people of different kinds.組卷:2引用:1難度:0.5 -
3.Although people everywhere seem to enjoy drinking coffee, they don't all have the same coffee culture. In Europe, for example, coffee shops are common places for people to meet friends and to talk while they drink coffee. On the other hand, places like this were not as common in North America in the past.Instead, people in North America liked to drink coffee in their homes with friends. The coffee culture in the USA changed when Starbucks(星巴克) coffee shops spread across the country.
The first Starbucks coffee shop opened in 1971 in downtown Seattle,Washington,in the USA.It was a small coffee shop that cooked its own coffee beans. The coffee shop's business did well, and by 1981 there were three Starbucks stores in Seattle.
Things really began to change for the company in 1981.That year,Howard Schultz met the three men who ran Starbucks.Schultz worked in New York for a company that made kitchen equipment. He noticed that Starbucks ordered a large number of special coffee makers, which caused his great interest.Schultz went to Seattle to see what Starbucks did.In 1982,the original Starbucks owners hired Schultz as the company's head of marketing(市場營銷).
In 1983,Schultz traveled to Italy. The special environment of the espresso (濃咖啡) bars there caught his eyes.Back in the USA,Schultz created an environment for Starbucks coffee shops that was comfortable and casual, and customers everywhere seemed to like it.Starbucks began opening more stores across the USA.Then the company opened coffee shops in other countries as well.Today, there are more than 16,000 Starbucks coffee shops all over the world.
However, that does not mean Starbucks has not had problems. In fact, many Starbucks stores have closed over the past few years. On the one hand, this is because there were too many coffee shops competing for business in one small area.On the other hand, stores in some countries closed because the coffee culture there did not match with the "feel the same everywhere" environment offered by Starbucks.
(1)The underlined word "ran" in Paragraph 3 probably means "
A.closed
B.managed
C.left
D.sold
(2)Why did so many Starbucks close in small areas?
A.Because the coffee in these places was too expensive.
B.Because the style of the coffee stores seems the same.
C.Because people like to drink coffee at home with friends.
D.Because there were too many coffee shops in one place.
(3)Which of the following shows the right structure of the passage?(P=paragraph)
A.
B.
C.
D.
(4)What's the best title for the passage?
A.The History of Starbucks.
B.The Culture of Starbucks.
C.The Popularity of Starbucks.
D.The Environment of Starbucks.組卷:0引用:1難度:0.5 -
4.Soon computers and other machines will be able to remember you by looking at your eyes!
The program works because everyone's eyes are different. So in the future you won't have to remember a number when you want to use a machine or take money out of a bank. You'll just have to look at the machine and it will be able to tell who you are.
The eye-recognition (眼睛識別) program is already being tested in shops and banks in the USA,Britain,Spain,Italy and Turkey.Soon this technology will take the place of all other ways of finding out who people are.
However, scientists are working on other systems.Machines will soon be able to know you from the shape of your face or hand or even your smell! We already have machines that can tell who you are from your voice or the mark made by your finger.
Eye-recognition is better than other kinds because your eyes don't change as you get older, and don't get dirty like hands or fingers, and even twins have different eyes.So the program can be up to 94% correct, depending on how good the technology is.However, some programs may only be 51% correct at present. In Britain,it was found that 91% of people who had tried it said that they liked the idea of eye-recognition.
In the future your computer will be looking at you in the eye.So smile!
(1)Where has the eye-recognition program already been tested in a few countries? In
A.shops and banks

B.You need to speak and then look.
C.The machine looks at your face.
D.You look at the machine.
(3)We already have machines that can tell who you are from
A.your eyes and smell
B.your voice or the mark made by your finger
C.your faces or your voices
D.your face or your hand
(4)Which of the following doesn't belong to the advantages of the eye-recognition program?
A.Your eyes don't changes as you get older.
B.Eyes don't get dirty like hands or fingers.
