3.Tim Berners-Lee is not the most famous inventor in the world. However, his invention has changed our lives.
He was born in London,England in 1955.When he was a small boy,Tim was interested in playing with electrical things. He studied science at Oxford University. He made his first computer from an old television at the age of 21.
Tim started working on early computers. At that time, they were much bigger than now.He worked in England then Switzerland.Tim was really interested in two things, computer and how the brain works. How could the brain connect so many facts so quickly? He had to work with people all over the world. They shared information about computers. It was hard to manage all the information. He answered the same questions again and again. It took a lot of time.It was even difficult for computers in the same office in Switzerland to share information.Tim also forgot things easily.Could a computer work like a brain?Could it "talk" to other computers?
There was an Internet already but it was difficult to use.In 1989,Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (WWW) all by himself. This had a special language that helped computers talk to each other on the Internet. When people wanted to share information with others, they used the World Wide Web.The Internet grew quickly after that.
Tim Berners-Lee doesn't think he did anything special. He says that many other people worked together to make the Internet what it is today.

4.Have you heard about "Survival Holidays"?It is for children to go into the lonely place for exciting activities. Now about 1,100 companies are allowed to take children into the great outdoors without their parents.
The reason why people like "Survival Holidays" is that they think being close to nature is good for children. Many children in big cities spend all time watching TV and playing computer games. "Survival Holidays" gives them an important change.
Is "Survival Holidays" a wonderful idea?Maybe it is.Children need more free time to play. They need to be left on their own, without adults disturbing(干擾)them.Parents care too much about their children. They like to see the children being busy with activities that are controlled by adults, which causes many problems.Children don't know what to do when they are in danger.Even something like crossing a small river seems to be a hard challenge.Children are not comfortable with danger.Even small danger like getting their feet wet or falling down seems very terrible to them.
Many people think the survival activities are good for children.Even years later, they will still remember what they have learned. Some have learned to stay calm in dangerous times. Some have learned how to keep safe.Others have learned how to work in a team. All these skills will help them a lot in their lives.

5.There's much to see under the sea,but you need to remember that light behaves differently in water than in air.The objects appear closer to you than they exactly are.You might find yourself reaching out to touch something and completely missing it.
Objects under water will appear larger than they would on the surface, too.Be careful not to tell any stories about the big fish that got away. That fish might not be so big after all! It's just because sometimes things can seem to be as much as about 33 percent bigger in water!
What's more,in deeper water, colors just seem as bright. In fact,it looks as if some colors are missing.Remember the color of an object results from the wavelengths(波長)of light that are reflected(反射)from its surface. And light is taken in as it moves down through the water.
Swimmers wear wet suits to keep warm underwater.Let's take a bright red, yellow and blue wet suit as an example. These colors are hard to miss on the surface of water.Watch carefully the changes in colors as you descend in the water. The red part now looks almost black because the red light wavelengths, the longest among these three colors, are missing. As you go down deeper, the same thing will happen to the yellow part and in the end to the blue part.Even at a place of about 6 to 9 meters underwater, you will look terrible, like a ghost! And you have to wait for your return to the surface to enjoy the bright colors again!
(1)You miss the object underwater when you want to touch it because
A.Your eyesight is quite poor
B.you are not quick enough
C.it is not as close as it seems
D.it disappears very quickly
(2)The example of the wet suit is used to explain the change of
A.the size
B.the color
C.the position
D.the weight
(3)The underlined word "descend" probably means
A.上升
B.漂浮
C.屏息
D.下潛
(4)Which of the following is true?
A.A four-meter-long of red light is longer than those of blue light.
B.The wavelengths of red light are longer than those of blue light.
C.Much water will be taken in by the swimmer deep in the water.
D.You will see a ghost if you go as deep as 6 to 9 meters into the sea.
