       Earlier in the week,weather experts had predicted Hurricane(颶風(fēng)) Joaquin to hit the East Coast of America,but the hurricane turned away in the Atlantic Ocean.The tropical moisture(熱帶潮氣) from the hurricane helped increase the power of the rainstorm in the Carolina and several other states.
       According to the government,that Sunday was the wettest day in the history of Carolina.The flooding also caused bad influence on the drinking water service in South Carolina's capital city.The government told its people to boil water before drinking it.Worse still,many roads and bridges across the state were washed out or under water.
       One of the hardest hit areas in Columbia was near Gills Greek,where a weather station recorded over 20 inches of rain over the weekend.The police used boats to save the family of Jeff Whalen,whose house was completely under water.
