2.Most of us spend our lives seeking the natural world. We go fishing, sit in the garden, have a picnic, live in the suburbs or go to the seaside. The most popular leisure activity in Britain is going for a walk. When joggers jog, they don't run on the streets.Every one of them tends to go to the park or the river.
But despite this, our children are growing up naturedeprived(剝奪).I spent my boyhood climbing trees. These days, children are robbed of the ancient freedom, due to problems like crime, traffic, the loss of the open space and strange new ideas about what is best for children, that is to say, things that can be bought, rather than things that can be found.
The truth is to be found elsewhere.A study in the US:families had moved to better housing and the children were assessed for ADHD—Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder(注意力缺陷多動癥).Those whose accommodation had more natural views showed an improvement of 19%;those who had the same improvement in material surroundings but no nice view improved just 4%.
ADHD is one of the great problems of modern childhood. One study after another indicates that contact with nature gives huge benefits to ADHD children. However,we spend money on drugs rather than on green places.
The life of old people is measurably better when they have access to nature. The increasing concern for the growing population of old people is in quality rather than quantity of years. And study after study finds that a garden is the single most important thing in finding that quality.Even problems with crime and aggressive behaviour are reduced when there is contact with the natural world.
We need the wild world. It is essential to our wellbeing, our health and our happiness.

B.children probably spend less time in nature nowadays
C.climbing trees will certainly do good to the children

(3)In what way do people benefit from their contact with nature?
A.Children with ADHD can be cured.
B.Children's performance at school is greatly improved.
C.Problems with crime and violent behavior will easily be solved.
D.A garden nearby improves the quality of old people's life.
(4)what is the main idea of this passage?

3.For many people, barbecues(燒烤) are a chance to enjoy a meal with family and friends. For Stan Hays, however, barbecuing becomes his skill to feed people in need when the disaster happens.
The unique effort began in May,when a severe tornado (龍卷風(fēng)) hit Joplin, about hours from Hays' home. His wife asked him to help. So,he put out the word to his partners and headed down with his barbecue. "We thought we'd be there three to four days, serving maybe 5,000 meals, " Hays said. But the need was there,so Hays and over 300 volunteers worked for 11 days to meet the need.
It was a life-changing experience for Hays, who had never organized any type of large voluntary effort before. While preparing to head home,he and his friends Will Cleaver and Jeff Smith came to the realization. "A barbecue community is able to respond to disasters like this quickly, " Hays said. "So,before we left,we put together a plan to create the Operation BBQ Relief. "
During the last eight years, the group has responded to almost 60 disasters across the United States, including Hurricanes Harvey and Irma and the wildfires in northern California.More than -6,800 volunteers have joined the effort, and the group often partners with other organizations to serve the meals.
"Barbecues are comfort food, " Hays said. "If you just lost your house or a loved one, getting a hot meal would remind you of the barbecues you had in the backyard and make you forget about the bad stuff in your life. That's worth it to me. "

B.Supplies were far from enough for the victims.

"I'm going to miss you so much,Poppy, " said the tall, thin teenager. He bent down to hug his old friend goodbye. He stood up,hugged his parents, and smiled, trying not to let his emotions get the better of him.
His parents were not quite able to control theirs. They had driven their son several hours out of town to the university where he would soon be living and studying. It was time to say goodbye for now at least. The family hugged and smiled through misty eyes and then laughed.
The boy lifted the last bag onto his shoulder, and flashed a bright smile. "I guess this is it, " he said. "I'll see you back home in a month, okay?" His parents nodded, and they watched as he walked out of sight into the crowds of hundreds of students and parents. The boy's mother turned to the dog, "Okay,Poppy, time to go back home. "
The house seemed quiet as a tomb without the boy living there. All that week,Poppy didn't seem interested in her dinner, her favorite toy,or even in her daily walk. Her owners were sad too,but they knew their son would be back to visit.Poppy didn't.
They offered the dog some of her favorite peanut butter treats. They even let her sit on the sofa, but the old girl just wasn't her usual cheerful self. Her owners started to get worried. "What should we do to cheer Poppy up?" asked Dad. "We've tried everything. "
"I have an idea, but it might be a little crazy, " smiled Mom. "Without anybody left in the house but us,this place could use a bit of fun.Let's get a little dog for Poppy.
It didn't take long before they walked through the front door carrying a big box.Poppy welcomed them home as usual but when she saw the box,she stopped. She put her nose on it.Her tail began wagging (擺動) ever so slowly, then faster as she caught the smell.
