Zhang was a soldier in the People's Liberation Army during the Liberation War.He was twice awarded the title of "Combat Hero（戰(zhàn)斗英雄）".In 1995，he volunteered to work in a remote（偏遠(yuǎn)的）Zhang Fuqing county in Hubei Province and has been helping poor people there ever since. |

Yuan devoted himself to agricultural education and research.He was the first person in the world to develop a hybrid rice strain（雜交水稻品種）.His research on higher rice yields（產(chǎn)量） helps fight hunger in China and other parts of the world. |

Huang was the chief designer of China's first-generation nuclear submarine（核潛艇）.Long March First（長征一號），China's earliest nuclear submarine，took its first test dive（試潛） on Dec.26，1970.Huang — who was 44 at that time — was on board for the dive. |

Tu is known for winning the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2015.She got inspiration from traditional Chinese medicine theories and discovered artemisinin（青蒿素），a medicine that can be used to treat malaria（瘧疾）.Her finding has saved the lives of millions. |
