試題詳情
Running on the beach can certainly be a good thing. It's completely different from running on the pavement,a track or trails with soft surfaces.
For starters, sand can be a challenge because it has an uneven (不平的)surface and constantly moves under your feet.As you push off, you're going to lose some of your push as the sand moves. So,you're not going to be able to push yourself forward as you would on a track or pavement! But this unevenness has an
upside
:It gives your body an extra workout, forcing you to exercise muscles that don't get as much use during runs on firm surfaces.
You also might feel painful afterward because beaches tend to slope (傾斜)downward, toward the water. If you're going for a long run on the beach, you might notice that one side of your body - including your ankle, leg or knee - might feel more painful because you're putting more pressure on it due to the slope.
Some beach runners tend to run barefoot. However,if you're not used to barefoot running, start slowly and run short distances at first. That's because running barefoot uses different muscles than running with shoes does, and it's important to strengthen these muscles and adapt your feet.
Despite these challenges, running on sand can be a smart choice for athletes because running on it can decrease the bad influence on your body during high-intensity workouts. This could potentially lead to less muscle damage and less pain.Women had less myoglobin(肌紅蛋白)- a protein that can be a sign of muscle pain - in their blood after running on the sand than they .did after running on grass. This suggests running on softer ground surfaces, such as sand, may reduce muscle damage.
(1)What makes running on sand difficult for starters?

The world we live in is becoming increasingly complex and uncertain. And with it,the conventional thinking of yesterday is no longer sufficient.Creating real breakthrough opportunities requires a fundamental change in our thinking. As Einstein said, "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."
There's no better example of this than the myth of the four-minute mile.
For centuries, runners had been attempting to run a mile in under four minutes. In the 1950s,the attempt to break the barrier took on renewed importance, and a number of famous runners publicly and unsuccessfully attempted the challenge. Many of the newspapers of the day began to question whether humans would ever be able to run a sub-four-minute mile. Then,in 1954,a man named Roger Bannister did the unthinkable. He broke through the imaginary barrier, running the mile in 3 minutes and 59.4 seconds. It was an amazing achievement.
But here's what's really interesting:it was only forty-six days later that another runner broke Bannister's record. And the following year, two new runners broke the four-minute mark in the same race.Dozens followed, and as of this writing, more than 1,400 runners have accomplished the goal, including one runner who ran two miles in less than eight minutes.
Did something change with respect to human body, track conditions, weather patterns, running shoes,or the human diet between the start of Bannister's race and the few years that followed? No.So what explains the sudden and dramatic explosion of athletic achievement?
The myth's unimaginable power over runners had lifted. What Bunnister had done was not just break the four - minute - mile barrier;he shattered(粉碎)the myth that created
the barrier in the first place. This paradigm (榜樣)had offered a set of actions available for runners to take.Runners were really free to run through the invented boundary.
Creating breakthroughs requires shattering the myths that limit our imagination and lock us into conventional thinking.Think about your own situation. What myths are you stuck in?And what would be possible if you had the courage to challenge the myths?
(1)What is needed to create breakthroughs?
A.Conventional thinking.
B.Changes in our thinking.
C.Complex situation.
D.Einstein's encouragement.
(2)What was the real barrier that kept runners succeeding in the four-minute mile?
A.The belief that it was unachievable.
B.Lack of professional training.
C.The poor track conditions.
D.Lack of sufficient diet.
(3)The example of Roger Bannister is used to
.
A.list a new record in the race
B.prove newspapers are wrong
C.show barrier can be broken
D.call on us to learn from him
(4)What does the writer try to explain in Paragraph 6?
A.The power of the myth.
B.The achievements of Bannister.
C.The importance of running freely.
D.The significance of breaking barriers.
(5)What is the best title of the passage?
A.Creating Breakthroughs
B.Accepting the Myths
C.Locking Your Imagination
D.Becoming the Best Athlete

As computers become more popular in China,Chinese people are increasingly relying on computer keyboards to input Chinese characters. But if they use the computer too much, they may end up forgetting the exact strokes(筆畫(huà))of each Chinese character when writing on paper.Experts suggest people, especially students, write by hand more.
Do you write by hand more or typing more?In Beijing, students start using a computer as early as primary school. And computer dependence is more wide-spread among university students.Almost all their assignments and essays are typed on a computer.
All the students interviewed say they usually use a computer. It's faster and easier to correct if using a computer. And that's why computers are being applied more and more often to modern education. But when people are
taking stock in
computers increasingly,problems appear.
"When I'm writing with a pen,I find I often can't remember how to write a character,though I feel I'm familiar with it. "
"I'm not in the mood to write when faced with a pen and paper. "
Many students don't feel this is something to worry about. Now that it's more convenient and efficient to write on a computer, why bother to handwrite?
Many educators think differently.Shi Liwei, the headmaster of a famous primary school in the capital said "Chinese characters enjoy both practical and aesthetic(審美的)value. But those characters typed with computer keyboards only maintain their practical value. All the artistic beauty of the characters is lost. And handwriting contains the writer's emotion.Through one's handwriting, people can get to know one's thinking and personality.Beautiful writing will give people a better first impression of them. "
To encourage students to handwrite more, many primary schools in Beijing have made writing classes compulsory(必修的)and in universities, some professors are asking students to turn in their homework and essays written by hand.
(1)The students interviewed prefer to write using a computer mainly because
.
A.they are usually asked to e-mail their homework and essays
B.they can correct the mistakes they make quickly and conveniently
C.they find it not easy to remember how to write a character
D.computers have become a trend and fashion in China
(2)Which of the following statements is NOT TRUE of the advantages of handwriting?
A.Handwriting contains the writer's emotion.
B.Nice handwriting can impress people well.
C.Thinking and personality can be shown in handwriting.
D.Chinese characters enjoy only aesthetic value.
(3)The underlined expression "taking stock in"(Paragraph 3)probably means
.
A.getting bored with
B.getting dependent on
C.becoming crazy about
D.getting curious about
(4)We can draw the conclusion from the passage that
.
A.more and more students will give up writing on a computer
B.writing by hand will give way to typing by computer one day
C.more and more students will pay attention to handwriting
D.the typing article better expresses one's emotion and quality

The year going from middle school to high school can be especially difficult,as students are faced with new academic(學(xué)業(yè)的) and social challenges. Before the first day of high school, there are things every soon-to-be high school freshman and their families should know.
By the time students are on the way to high school, many of them start to believe the labels(標(biāo)簽)that are placed on them, such as "You're smart" and "Maths isn't your strong area".People that have a fixed mindset(心態(tài)) believe that they are born to be great or weak.On the other hand, people that have a growth mindset believe that their greatness or weakness is because of their own actions.I totally agree that students should have a growth mindset.I don't expect any student to move from just passing a subject to an A +.It's going to take time and focused effort;just keep working on it.
Today, many students face greater stress compared to their parents and grandparents.Parents should prepare them to fight the battle on the pillow and in the kitchen. When I say, pillow,I mean sleep. Not having enough sleep can have some surprising effects on students, including improper behavior, anxiety(焦慮)and poor grades. The second weapon(武器)is eating healthy and balanced meals.Studies show that students who eat nutritious meals and who exercise 60 minutes a day remain more attentive during the school day and experience improved academic achievement and grades. This last "secret" weapon is not to have over-scheduled(安排過(guò)度)time.Make sure students know how to set realistic plans and how to say no to tasks and activities that aren't important to them.
A lot of students know each other from primary and middle school. They are in their "comfort zones",feeling they have a sense of control over and expectation of their relationships. But come the first real day of high school,
that
will all change. The reason I encourage high school freshmen to step out of their comfort zones, though often scary,is that comfort zones get boring and there are many kinds of people to get to know.Usually, the more a student accepts who they are and on the road to becoming, the easier it is for them to build new friendships. Therefore, let's encourage them to get involved(參與),have fun and play.
(1)Which of the following represents a fixed mindset?
A.I'm at the starting point of my potential.
B.My mother is not good at chemistry either.
C.I should start studying a little earlier next time.
D.It's okay if I fail;at least I've learned something.
(2)The author might encourage parents to
.
A.prepare a healthy meals for their kids
B.praise their kids when they do well in school
C.take their kids to visit their grandparents often
D.buy soft pillows for their kids to have a good rest
(3)What is the third weapon mainly about?
A.Enjoying good health.
B.Acquiring the ability to say no.
C.Balancing schoolwork and play.
D.Developing time management skills.
(4)What does the underlined word "that" in the last paragraph refer to?
A.The sense of control.
B.The value of friendship.
C.The expectation of future.
D.The feeling of helplessness.
