Once upon a time，there was a tortoise on a ship，and the ship was damaged and dropped into the water．Some time later the tortoise made it to a desert land surrounded （包圍） by water on all sides except for one．The landward （向陸地的） side led up to a big mountain．To avoid starving to death，the tortoise decided to climb to the top of the mountain，hoping that he would be able to cross to the other side．
