When should a child begin to take music lessons? To answer this question,it's important to look at the reasons why a parent might want their child to take music lessons.
There is a growing body of research that shows a "window of opportunity" from birth to age nine for developing a musical sensibility within children.During this time, the mental structures and mechanisms(機(jī)制) associated with processing and understanding music are in the best stages of development. And that is why it is important to expose children in this age range to music.
The important question then is not when to start lessons, but the goal of music lessons for young children. For example, very young children are exposed to instruments not to master them, but to gain experience and learn to develop meaningful relationships with music. If this is your goal, then the "lessons" can and should start soon after birth and certainly within the child's first year. These "lessons" do not have to be-in fact,at first probably shouldn't be very formal.
Once the child is around age three,it may be time for more formalized "lessons".Again, the goal is not to learn to play an instrument but to further develop skills like identifying(識(shí)別) a beat in music, identifying melody,or identifying instruments.
By age five, most children have built a foundation that has prepared them for formalized music lessons.Even now,the goal of the lessons is not to become a great performer on the instrument but the same as when they play music at three.Piano and violin are the two most common instruments played at his age,but others have tried the recorder, guitar,or ukulele with success.
By age ten,the child will have a variety of skills associated with their instrument of choice. They'll also have the physical strength to try a different, bigger instrument that requires a higher level of strength and determination.Around this time, the goal of lessons properly changes from gaining experience with music to improving performance ability.

From sports to clubs to outside organizations, there are many activities to take part in outside the classroom.(1)
Fortunately,it becomes quite easy once you figure out what you enjoy doing in general. With a little more careful thought, you can also choose an activity that interests you.
Think about your interests and know your advantages. Before you start considering specific(具體的)activities, take a step back .Think about what excites you and find your passions(熱情) .(2)
Now that you have a better idea of what you like to do in general, decide on those that you are good at.Ask yourself what skills they show. Then find activities that require the same ones.Make sure that you will enjoy yourself by choosing an activity that lets you shine.

In addition to your interests and advantages, know what you would like to improve about yourself.Use activities as a way to make yourself better.Find out new challenges, without the added stress of having to earn good grades at them. You can use activities to develop general skills that you may not have.
Find out what activities are available(可用的)and look into each one .(4)

Shawn Seipler is on the way to saving lives with soap.It began about seven years ago as a tiny business with a few friends and family in a single car garage in Florida, where they recycled used soap into fresh bars. The organization, now called Clean the World, has grown to include cities where hotels are plentiful and used bars of soap can be gathered easily.
As a frequent traveler while working for a tech company,Seiler had a sudden thought one night at a hotel."I picked up the phone and called the front desk and asked them what happened to the bar of soap when I was done using it." he recalled.Learning that they would go to the dustbin,he began his task to help save lives with soap and even half-used bottles of shampoo. It's a huge problem. One of the most common kinds of illnesses in the world are those that are passed from person to person and to oneself because of dirty things that are on one's hands.
In the U.S.and other developed nations, hygiene(衛(wèi)生)products are everywhere. Not so in some other countries, where Seipler recalled visiting a hospital once in the Middle East to find that soap was in such short supply that patients had to provide their own. "It's such an important part of the interruption of infectious germs that could save so many lives," he said.
Clean the World now collects used soap from more than 4,000 hotels and has delivered 25 million bars to 99 countries. The process is fairly simple with the collected soap being cut into pieces and then run through machines that remove any remaining bacteria before being pressed into new bars of soap and packaged for delivery.

A.They sell it.
B.They save it.
C.They drop it.
D.They recycle it.
(3)What can be learned from Paragraph 3?
A.Soap isn't fully appreciated.
B.Soap can prevent many illnesses.
C.Soap is needed in developed countries.
D.Soap means little to developing countries.
(4)Which of the following can best describe Shawn Seiler?
A.Determined and optimistic.
B.Friendly and open-minded.
C.Warm-hearted and creative.
D.Hard-working and ambitious.

Paper is one of our oldest, simplest and most important inventions. But it also presents a danger to the world in two significant ways.
First, the making of paper requires the loss of millions of trees each year.Between 2001 and 2019,the world lost 386 million hectares of forest.(1)
And worldwide use of paper is expected to double in the next 40 years.Clearly, the planet cannot sustain such a high rate of forest loss. The second great problem with paper is what happens once it is no longer useful.A huge quantity of wastepaper ends up in dumps and landfills, where it can produce harmful gases.(2)
One simple solution can greatly reduce both of these problems:paper recycling.Paper is mainly made from cellulose(纖維素),which makes up the cell walls of trees and many other plants.(3)
So far, trees are the only source of cellulose that can fill the massive demand for paper products. Therefore, recycling paper is simply one of the best ways to save trees.
(4)
It now can offer the same print performance as non- recycled paper.
Effective recycling requires a consistent effort.(5)
Once enough people realize the need for recycling, more effective recycling systems can be carried out.The massive loss of trees affects everybody on earth.Everyone should do their part to recycle paper and encourage government and industries to do the same.
A.The way to begin is with education and understanding.
B.Paper-recycling produces cellulose to make more paper.
C.Harmful paper in landfills results in global climate change.
D.Of the trees that were cut down,42%went to paper production.
E.Because of its structure, cellulose can be used repeatedly in papermaking.
F.The gas released is called methane which is a significant contributor in global warming.
G.Thanks to advances in processing, recycled paper isn't the dull-colored stuff we are familiar with any more.
