  • 2.    Lucy Hobbs came to the University of Wisconsin already knowing she wanted to study nursing so she could make a positive difference in the lives of others.Once she was on campus, she realized she could make an even greater impact on her future patients by adding a second major(專業(yè)),one in Spanish.
        "I was drawn to nursing because I want a career that will be fulfilling and will help me serve others," says Hobbs. "I chose to add a major in Spanish because I love learning about other cultures, and I want to do something for those easily ignored populations in my nursing career."
        In addition to her nursing and Spanish curriculum,Hobbs found multiple interesting ways to bring her majors together, including things like research and study abroad.Hobbs was part of a research project that is documenting the experiences of Spanish-speaking populations in western Wisconsin during COVID-19.The research team included students and teachers in languages, history and nursing.

"All these experiences helped me to enhance my time on campus by giving me opportunities to meet amazing and inspiring individuals who I believe will remain lifetime friends,"

  • 3.    Taking a picture of Mars is not easy.Once light bounces off the planet,it can take between 3 to 22 minutes to travel to Earth — so there aren't truly"live"images of Mars.
        But on Friday afternoon, the European Space Agency will offer the closest thing:the first"livestream"of Mars —a rare, almost real-time look into space on YouTube, which posts pictures of the planet every 50 second s as they beam down directly from the camera mounted(安裝) on the agency's Mars Express orbiter(軌道飛行器).We can get a firsthand look at Mars on Friday.
        "During Friday's one-hour livestream, the time between the images being taken from orbit around Mars and appearing on your screen will be about 18 minutes,"James Godfrey, the spacecraft operations manager at the ESA's mission control center, said in a statement."That's 17 minutes for light to travel from Mars to Earth in their current configuration, and about one minute to pass through the wires and servers on the ground."
        "Normally,we see images from Mars and know that they were taken days before.I'm excited to see Mars as it is now — as close to a Martian(火星人)'now' as we can possibly get!"
        In 50-second intervals, the camera shoots across Mars, showing a side of the planet entering night,as well as some clouds billowing out on the corner. The livestream celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Mars Express mission, which was launched in 2003 to better understand the planet,as well as search for traces of water.
        It's with this camera, originally meant for engineering purposes, that we'll get"live"images on Friday evening from 18:00 CEST in the first MarsLIVE.What makes this unique,is that it's a one-hour livestream from Mars—but don't expect a detailed view of the Red Planet!

        My cousin Allen was the coolest person in all of Minneapolis.By the age of 19,he was a star football player at the University of Minnesota.I wanted to be just like him.So when Allen asked me to join him on a spring fishing trip in northern Minnesota,I said yes!
        After planning the trip,we gathered clothes and supplies and then set off on our adventure. We reached the Superior National Forest by early evening. On the way to our campsite,Allen pointed to a small house faraway in one of the mountains, saying that it was the ranger station (護(hù)林站) where the foresters worked.
        Allen knew all the tricks of an experienced camper. After we gathered enough wood from the forest floor,he started the campfire using only stone and steel,no matches. After a day of travelling,we were very hungry. We ate beef and rice and some soup as well.
        Exhausted,we crawled into our sleeping bags early.Allen was still talking about his past camping adventures when a sudden wind picked up from the north. The temperature dropped and it began to snow.Allen knew of a way to increase the temperature inside the tent.He dragged a log from the woods, wrapped aluminum foil (鋁箔) around the log and then placed it near the campfire. The heat from the fire reflected into the tent.Soon the tent was warm again and thoughts of lake fish filled my dreams.
        I was still dreaming when Allen woke me up in a panic. Our tent was on fire! The snow had stopped during the night, but the wind had fanned the flames of the fire towards our tent.Frightened by the flames,I ran out of the tent immediately. The tent collapsed with Allen inside.Without any hesitation,I reached into the burning tent, grabbed him,and dragged him to the icy lake.We checked each other to make sure neither of us was hurt.

    續(xù)寫要求:
    (1)續(xù)寫詞數(shù)應(yīng)為150左右;
    (2)請按如下格式在相應(yīng)位置作答。
        Later,as we stood by the burning tent to keep warm,we considered our situation.

        Suddenly,we heard a noise in the forest.
