• 17．The World Cup is an international football competition that takes place every four years.It has a long history.The first World Cup event was held in 1930 and it had stopped in the history because the Second World War broke out.The World Cup can take place anywhere in the world.In 2018 the host country was Russia，in 2014 it was Brazil，in 2010 it was South Africa，and this year，In 2022，the host country is the State of Qatar（卡塔爾）.It is the first time that a country in the Middle East is hosting the World Cup and only the second time that a country in Asia is hosting the competition.
     The World Cup usually takes place in the months of June and July but it is incredibly hot in Qatar during the summer months，and so the competition will take place in November and December this year.There are 32 national teams participating.There will be a total of 64 matches played over the 28-day World Cup.
     Traditionally，host countries have had between 10 and 12 soccer stadiums，but Qatar has only 8 stadiums.Each shows different aspects of life in Qatar.These stadiums are all in the capital city of Doha so that players will not have to fly between cities.
     The Qatar 2022 may be the last World Cup for some famous soccer stars，such as Portuguese player Cristiano Ronaldo and Argentine player Lionel Messi.
