二、七選五

  • 11.There are many kinds of jye.ai.Clouds are an important part of Earth's weather.
        How Do Clouds Form?
The sky can be full of water. But most of the time you can't see the water. The drops of water are too small to see. They have turned into a gas called water vapor. (1)
The cooler air causes the water droplets to start to stick to things like bits of dust, ice or sea salt.
        (2)

Clouds get their names in two ways. One way is by where they are found in the sky. Some clouds are high up in the sky.Low clouds form closer to Earth's surface. In fact, low clouds can even touch the ground. These clouds are called fog.Middle clouds are found between low and high clouds. (3)
Cirrus clouds(卷云) are high clouds. They look like feathers.Cumulus clouds(積云) are middle clouds. These clouds look like giant cotton balls in the sky.
        (4)

Most of the water in clouds is in very small droplets. The droplets are so light that they float in the air. Then they turn into larger drops. When that happens, gravity causes them to fall to Earth. We call the falling water drops "rain".When the air is colder, the water may form snowflakes instead.
        Why Do Scientists Study Clouds?
Clouds are important for many reasons.Rain and snow are two of those reasons. At night, clouds reflect heat and keep the ground warmer.During the day, clouds make shade that can keep us cooler. (5)
Scientists use satellites in space to study clouds.Scientists also study clouds on other planets.Mars has clouds that are like the clouds on Earth. But other planets have clouds that aren't made of water.

    A.What Are Clouds?
    B.What Causes Rain?
C.What Are Some Types of Clouds?
D.There are varied shapes of clouds.
E.Another way clouds are named is by their shape.
F.As the water vapor goes higher in the sky,the air gets cooler.
G.Studying clouds helps scientists better understand Earth's weather.

三、閱讀理解

  • 菁優(yōu)網(wǎng)12.1、The earliest report of a monster related to Loch Ness(尼斯湖) appears in the Life of St.Columba by Adomnan, written in the 7th century.According to Adomnan, writing about a century after the events he described, the Irish monk Saint Columba was staying in the land of the Piets with his companions when he came across the locals burying a man killed by the River Ness. They explained that the man had been swimming in the river when a "water beast" attacked him and dragged him under.
They tried to rescue him in a boat, but were able only to drag up his dead body.Hearing this,Columba shocked the Piets by sending his follower Luigne moccu Min to swim across the river. The monster came after him,but Columba made the sign of the Cross and commanded, "Go no further.Do not touch the man.Go back at once." The monster immediately halted as if it had been "pulled back with ropes" and fled in terror.
The oldest manuscript(手稿) relating to this story was put online in 2012.Believers in the Loch Ness Monster often point to this story, which takes place in the River Ness rather than the loch itself,as evidence for the creature's existence as early as the 6th century. However, doubters question the story's truth, noting that water-beast stories were extremely common in medieval(中世紀(jì)的) saints' lives;as such,Adomnan's tale is likely to be a recycling of a common theme attached to a local landmark.
According to the doubters,Adomnan's story may he independent of the modem Loch Ness Monster legend entirely. In an article for cryptozoology,A.C.Thomas notes that even if there were some truth about the story,it could be explained as meeting with a walrus(海象) or similar creature that had swum up the river.

(1)Based on the passage, when was the man attacked by the Loch Ness Monster?

    A.In the sixth century.
    B.In the seventh century.
    C.In the eighth century.
    D.In the ninth century.
(2)What does the underlined word in the second paragraph mean?

    A.Came into view.
    B.Acted quickly.
    C.Stopped following.
    D.Came from nowhere.
    (3)Why were the Piets shocked?

A.Because Columba made the sign of the Cross.
B.Because Luigne moccu Min was not hurt at all.
C.Because the monster came after Luigne moccu Min.
D.Because Luigne moccu Min was sent to swim in the river.
(4)According to the doubters,we can know that
    .
A.there was no truth about Adomnan's story at all
B.what Adomnan met might have been a walrus
C.Adomnan was lying to the world
D.Adomnan's story is likely to be based on the modern Loch Ness Monster legend
