試題詳情
Fifty-five years ago,I got into my fathers lime-green 1960 Rambler American--a car to take my driver's exam in Lindenhurst.I crossed my fingers to pray that the start button would work.It did,and my father and I got to the test site on time. The streets seemed quite narrow to me.Although nervous,I was determined to do my best.Parallel-parking was my
flaw
,and I hoped that my tires would not hit the curb(路邊線).
When I was practicing for the test,my father, far from being the best teacher, was rather unpleased with my parallel-parking.His fearful cries could be heard along the streets of Woodward Parkway in South Farmingdale,my hometown,or in the large empty parking lots where I first put my foot to the gas pedal.I felt embarrassed when he said, "Step on the gas!Check your rear-view mirror!Step on the brake!" I was convinced that no one could do all those things at the same time.I had seen the driver's education films showing bodies were cut off in accidents and came away fairly frighteningly.
During my test,I drove cautiously, probably a little too slow, without the benefit of power steering or electronic helpmates.I kept my hands at 10 and 2 on the steering wheel( 方向盤),checked my mirrors, stopped at stop signs and signaled for turns.I was satisfied with my performance up to that point, but then it was time to parallel-park.
Fortunately, the parking area had no curb, just something like a mound of dirt at the edge.I pulled up next to a car, checked my rear-view mirror and began to back inward.Somehow,I nailed it on my first try, lining up right behind the car in front of me.Minutes later, the tester announced I had passed.I knew that my life had changed.I had earned freedom of movement and felt a sense of maturity.

Sidney Keys,14-year-old,has started a youth-led book club program, with the support and help of his mom,to help empower both himself and many other boys with mental or physical problems through literature.
Keys' idea to create Books N Bros was born from his own setbacks and struggles. "I used to have a really bad stutter and perform badly in school and I would get laughed at for it," Sidney Keys, the founder of the book club Books N Bros said. "Reading was kind of my escape from my stutter because in my head I was able to imagine things and play out all the events clearly." He said, "I wanted to start up Books N Bros so that I could talk to other people, especially boys, about books I love in a relaxing way because it's like a brotherhood."
The reading club that he started at just 10 years old now has over 250"bros"aged 7 to 13 from the U.S.and Canada, most of whom are changing actively and positively.Marvel's Hero Project, which reveals the remarkable, positive change young men make in their communities across the country and turns them into superheroes, selected Keys to be featured in the Disney series.
"I always wanted to read books that had characters that looked like me,but now I see a comic book with me in it," Keys said delightedly. "It's really awesome, especially when I hear my friends and teachers call me my superhero name at school."
As for the future of Books N Bros,Keys and his mom hope to expand the programs reach throughout the country. "Getting Books N Bros in schools across America,we don't want transportation to be an issue for getting that physical brotherhood and bond.It just benefits so many people, and it keeps me going," Keys explained.

My First Marathon(馬拉松)
A month before my first marathon, one of my ankles was injured and this meant not running for two weeks, leaving me only two weeks to train.Yet,I was determined to go ahead.
I remember back to my 7th year in school. In my first P.E.class,the teacher required us to run laps and then hit a softball.I didn't do either well.He later informed me that I was "not athletic".
The idea that I was "not athletic" stuck with me for years. When I started running in my 30s,I realized running was a battle against myself, not about competition or whether or not I was athletic. It was all about the battle against my own body and mind.A test of wills!
The night before my marathon,I dreamed that I couldn't even find the finish line.I woke up sweating and nervous, but ready to prove something to myself.
Shortly after crossing the start line,my shoe laces(鞋帶)became untied. So I stopped to readjust. Not the start I wanted!
At mile 3,I passed a sign:"GO FOR IT,RUNNERS!"
By mile 17,I became out of breath and the once injured ankle hurt badly.Despite the pain,I stayed the course walking a bit and then running again.
By mile 21,I was starving!
As I approached mile 23,I could see my wife waving a sign. She is my biggest fan.She never minded the alarm clock sounding at 4 a.m.or questioned my expenses on running.
I was one of the final runners to finish. But I finished! And I got a medal. In fact,I got the same medal as the one that the guy who came in first place had.
